Baby infant formula is not as simple as the breast milk. Their building blocks are tougher to break down due to the absence of dietary fibers that assist in softer bowel.
The digestive system of infants is not well developed as well so, the formula contents may take long to get into gastrointestinal tract leading to constipation.
For new moms, taking long to bowel doesn’t necessarily means your baby is constipated. A formula fed baby can go one to three times for every couple of days which is quite normal. Breastfed babies may bowel once even after five days.
Also, getting red on face when pooping may be normal if the stool is apparently soft. However, if the bowel is hard, large or looking like pellets, that’s a sign of constipated baby. The baby is also constipated if the stool is difficult and painful to pass.
